Every year on March 8 the world celebrates International Women’s Day. It is a day that has been celebrated for over 100 years now and observes the social, political, economic, and cultural achievements of women. It is also a day to reflect and celebrate on how far women have come and how much farther women still have to go.
For the year 2020, the theme for International Women’s Day is An Equal World Is An Enabled World with the #EachForEqual campaign which draws attention to the differences individuals can make. At its core, this simply means creating a gender balanced world in which men and women have equal opportunities.
Worldwide, companies and organizations have been encouraged to participate in the conversation around gender parity and empower their male and female employees to promote equality at all times. At Beem, we completely support this notion and for that reason, for this year’s IWD we will be celebrating by featuring our great team of women working in different departments at Beem offices. Each one had this to say
What does IWD mean to you?
“IWD to me is very important because it brings recognition and draws attention to global issues undermining the female gender whether it be in politics, workplace or in our communities in general. This day’s celebration encourages people to take action in promoting gender equality and if you look back, you cannot ignore the massive improvement brought as a result of championing women. Because of the continuous efforts to ensure there is equal opportunities for both men and women, I was able to get a good education and pursue different life opportunities which built a great foundation that led me to a great job as a Digital Marketer here at Beem today.” said Silma, Digital Marketing Strategist at Beem.
Achieving Goals As A Woman In The I.T Industry
Every career has its own unique sets of challenges, and for Tejal the challenges she met in the field of Software Development only made her more determined. “Being a female coder is a challenge but a great opportunity at the same time. For one, in order to get into programming you have to be willing to take risks and to persist. You also have to be ready to do a lot of learning and trying out things to see what happens without fear of failing. I have made lots of mistakes along the way but it is because of these mistakes that I actually got good at what I am doing today. As a woman working here at Beem as a coder is actually a dream come true for me. I would like to be remembered as someone who was not afraid to do what she wanted to, and as someone who took risks along the way in order to achieve her goals.” said Tejal, Software Developer at Beem.
What Woman Inspires you?
When asked who is inspires her on this IWD celebrations, Nusrat, Beem Business Development manger shared “I am inspired by myself. In my religion, we believe that Allah made women and men differently in that the men’s perception is through intellect whereas the women’s is through emotion. I believe that both genders are incapable of each other and each holds a great importance in their own personalities. Women caters more emotional responsibilities; from being a daughter, sister then being a wife, mother and a bread winner! As a woman of this era I am independent and this makes me proud of where I am and what I do.” To finish up, Nusrat also shared one of her favorite quotes “A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform” by Diane Mariechild.
Beem On Encouraging Other Women
The road to gender equality is still a long one. Beem recognizes this and therefore encourages and supports the self driven, motivated and purposeful women who work at Beem everyday. On this International Women’s Day, Beem thanks these inspiring women for sharing their experiences and insights and wishes all women Happy International Women’s Day!
